Job Summary Golisano Institute for Sustainability is looking for an engineer or scientist with strong leadership skills, experimental and analytical materials background, and a passion for solving real-world problems. In our environment, researchers work on a wide variety of products and technologies, work with undergraduate and graduate students, and are engaged in collaborative research with leading companies on projects in diverse project areas such as: advanced manufacturing and remanufacturing, recycling, energy generation and storage systems, materials development and analysis, and sustainability and sustainable design.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform/manage materials analysis for internal research, and for external customers, to support product failure analysis and industrial process quality improvement
Develop enhanced laboratory capability for materials analysis, in particular non-destructive evaluation technologies
Prepare and present/publish technical results of research
Develop proposals for external funding
Support expansion of existing research programs that support sustainable industrial development, with a focus on: remanufacturing, recycling, process material and energy efficiency, condition assessment and prognostics, and additive manufacturing
Support sustainable product design efforts from materials perspective
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science
5-10+ years work experience with industry, national lab or equivalent in materials development or analysis or process development
Significant experience in metals and metallurgy, with flexibility to work on diverse materials, technical challenges, and application domains is required
Experience in analysis of materials and material failures
Analytical ability to solve challenging design/development problems
Strong organization and motivational skills
Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, for both technical and non-technical audiences
Authorized to work in the U.S. (citizen or permanent resident status)
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in developing and transferring processes from the laboratory to the production floor
Understanding of, or experience with, remanufacturing, recycling technologies, or additive manufacturing
Experience with protective materials (incl fabrics) for high temperature applications
Experience writing proposals for industrial or agency funded research projects

Minimum Qualifications
