Located in Danville, KY, the historic, picturesque 150-acre campus is 30 miles from Lexington, in the famed Bluegrass Region of Central Kentucky.
Reporting to the Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement, the Associate Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement (AVP) is a key strategic and operational leader responsible for overall management of the development team and the units within: donor relations, database services, major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, planned giving, alumni relations and events.
The AVP will work collaboratively to advance the goals of the Office of Development and Alumni Engagement – a proven leader who values collaboration, innovation, and creativity, and is well-versed in all facets of institutional fundraising.
Key Responsibilities:
Partner with Vice President of Development and Alumni Engagement to provide the strategic vision, leadership, direction, and coordination in the areas of Development and Alumni Relations.
Personally manage a portfolio of leadership and principal gift donors and prospects.
Serve as a key partner in preparation for Centre College’s upcoming comprehensive capital campaign including strategic planning and campaign feasibility – ultimately working with the VP of Development and Alumni Engagement to manage and direct all phases of the campaign.
Provide oversight on the conceptualization and execution of events designed to engage and cultivate alumni and friends of Centre College to drive advancement goals.
Oversee the database services function to ensure data is up-to-date, easily accessible, and actionable for use by the appropriate offices throughout the College.
Provide guidance, coaching and development of direct reports, creating opportunities which foster interdependencies and synergies among and between departments.
Provide program and budget oversight to the entire unit, ensuring resources are effectively utilized.
Collaborate effectively with other offices on campus, including Finance, Human Resources, Athletics, Academics, Communications, ODI, and Legal Affairs.
Demonstrate an appreciation of and commitment to further an inclusive culture for those of diverse backgrounds such as ability, age, class, ethnicity, faith background, gender expression, gender identity, geographic region, national origin, neurodiversity, race, and sexual orientation that comprise individual and group expressions of identity.
Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Development and Alumni Engagement in support of division priorities.
Desired Qualifications:
Ability to manage and lead dynamically and energize multidisciplinary teams.
Comprehensive knowledge of all areas of nonprofit development, including campaigns, major gifts, individual and institutional giving, donor acquisition, planned and annual giving, etc.
Strong leadership capability, and ability to effectively translate plans into tangible, achievable goals.
Strong organizational skills with ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to establish credibility and confidence with stakeholders and volunteer leaders.
Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and communications skills.
Ability to lead based on data-driven decisions and a metrics driven approach to fundraising.
Prior experience in higher education preferred, including the ability to articulate the benefits of a liberal arts experience to internal and external constituents.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least 10 years of experience leading, supervising, and managing development teams of at least 5-10 direct reports.
Demonstrated success in fundraising and donor cultivation, solicitation, and closure of significant six- and seven-figure leadership gifts.
Demonstrated experience in program development, implementation, and review, as well as budget and resource management.
Proven history of success in managing a comprehensive capital campaign.
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization.
Education Requirements (Any)
Minimum of related Bachelor's Degree required, with some related work experience and a Masters preferred.
