Emory University (“the Company”)has engaged Major, Lindsey & Africa on an exclusive basis to conduct a search for a Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

Overview: The Senior Vice President and General Counsel (“SVPGC”) is the chief legal officer of the University, reporting to the President and with dotted line reporting to the Emory University Board of Trustees. The SVPGC will function as a critical leader at Emory providing insightful strategic counsel on legal matters related to governance, business, and operations of the University, academic affairs, the health care system, partnerships and corporate structures, monetization of assets and commercialization of intellectual property, and the complex and changing regulatory requirements affecting the enterprise. The SVPGC is responsible for all the legal affairs and matters of the University, including Emory Healthcare, and provides outstanding counsel to the President and Board of Trustees. The SVPGC is a member of the President’s Leadership team and supports the executive team and relevant enterprise stakeholders. The SVPGC leads and manages the Office of General Counsel to carry out the responsibilities of this senior executive role at Emory University.
Experience: The successful candidate will have at least 20 years of significant and broad-based legal and legal management experience. Candidates who have increasing senior-level responsibilities at complex corporations, AmLaw 100 firms, large academic institutions, nonprofit institutions, or within governmental organizations are strongly preferred.
Location/Relocation: Atlanta, Georgia (This is an in-person role. Remote candidates will not be considered.)
