The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for an Associate General Counsel for the Office of Legal Affairs. The Office of Legal Affairs provides comprehensive legal advice and assistance to UNC Charlotte. The Office of Legal Affairs provides services on legal matters involving or affecting the institution to the Board of Trustees, the Chancellor, the other senior administrators of the University, and through them, to the University’s faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:  Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Prior experience as an attorney for a university, or relevant in-house or law firm experience required. At least five years of relevant, post-law school experience required.

Essential Job Duties: Duties related to that focus area are expected to include advising university officers, faculty, and staff on matters related to law and policy; advising regarding the development, review, analysis, and negotiation of policies and contracts; completing projects and serving on committees; and presenting to university officers, faculty, and staff on various legal issues.

The Associate General Counsel will have other duties/focus areas as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Integrity and General Counsel and Associate Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs and Deputy General Counsel based on personal experience and institutional need. Regardless of assigned focus areas, the Associate General Counsel will be expected to research, provide advice on, and draft communications and legal documents regarding the full range of state and federal laws, regulations, and policies applicable to a UNC constituent institution.
