Under the direction of the University Title IX Coordinator, the Title IX Investigator performs a variety of advanced, investigatory, administrative, and compliance-related duties in support of campus, UNC System, state, and federal policies and requirements about sex or gender-based harassment, discrimination, or other misconduct. Those functions include but are not limited to conducting investigations, coordinating formal and informal resolutions, implementing supportive measures, interpreting policies, and facilitating programming relating to diversity and equity.
The Title IX Investigator will stay abreast of federal, state, and local laws for changes in compliance requirements and assist the Coordinator in implementing effective policies and responding to incidents. The Title IXInvestigator works closely with the Office of Student Conduct on the intake of new matters, the provision of supportive measures, and the adjudication of complaints in the hearing process.
The Title IX Investigator will support the University's Title IX Coordinator in reviewing and revising policy and procedures implementing Title IX and its corresponding regulations and other University policies against sexual misconduct, discrimination, and harassment.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Division of Legal Affairs, Risk, and Compliance (DLARC) supports the University's endeavors to achieve its academic mission and strategic plan while adhering to its ethical, legal, and regulatory responsibilities. In providing that support, DLARC, through the Title IX Office, promotes a safe and healthy campus environment through compliance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act (Campus SAVE).

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in human resources, organizational management, counseling, public administration, law degree, or field directly related to the significant responsibilities of the position AND three years (full-time equivalent) of civil rights or similar investigatory experience. A combination of education and experience equivalent may be considered. Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds. Professional knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and governing laws and procedures, Title VII, Title IX, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.
Preferred:
Master's degree and related experience in a public higher education environment. Knowledge of current Title IX regulations. Demonstrated skill in:
Receiving and responding to complaints of discrimination and working with public agencies
Conducting investigations and closing cases.
Facilitating small group processes.
Well-developed oral and written language skills to prepare and deliver reports and professional correspondence
Communicating with others on confidential and sensitive issues.
Objectively and effectively investigate complaints of alleged unlawful discrimination, sexual harassment, and other violations of rights relative to assigned program areas, prepare reports, and make findings and recommendations related to law and legal precedence
Interpreting and applying provisions of federal law, Title IX, and other state or campus regulations related to the position's responsibilities.
