General Counsel will assist the chief legal officer, other members of the legal team, central office leadership and field leadership for United Church Homes by providing a range of legal services from corporate transactional counsel to healthcare regulatory counsel, including document preparation and review; legal research and analysis; regulatory compliance; investigations, and fact checking; and general legal support to our healthcare communities and field personnel as needed in areas of legal and risk management.
The legal department supports UCH in (i) all forms of transactional activity; (ii) contracting; (iii) management of outside risk/insurance coverage; and (iv) corporate compliance; (v) litigation and regulatory issues; (vi) corporate legal structure and governance.
Key Responsibilities:
Reports to CLO, and interacts with leadership to support all projects and activities noted above.
Maintains databases and reviews, revises, and drafts legal documents including routine agreements, managed care contracts and other documents related to the management of a senior housing/healthcare company.
Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other sources regarding legal issues, regulatory/compliance issues and provides written analysis as required.
Provides legal advice and counsel to UCH on a broad range of legal matters, including transactions, corporate governance, regulatory compliance/risk management, contract negotiation.
Works in furtherance of addressing senior housing and healthcare regulatory issues including fraud, abuse, records requests, HIPAA, licensure, Medicare, Medicaid and managed care reimbursement matters.
Manage litigation and outside counsel.
Stay up-to-date on legal and regulatory developments impacting the healthcare and senior living industries and advise on their implications for the organization.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and deliver legal training programs to enhance compliance awareness within the organization.
Works closely with outside counsel.
Qualifications:
Ability and desire to excel in an environment defined by a culture of “Abundantly Living” and supporting the operations of communities that provide vital care for our seniors and vulnerable adult populations.
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the Ohio Bar Association, or ability to obtain Ohio license within one year.
Minimum of Seven (7) years of experience practicing law, with a focus on healthcare law, corporate law, or a related field. In-house legal experience is preferred.
Strong knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations applicable to the healthcare and senior living professions.
Proven experience in providing strategic legal advice and managing complex legal matters.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
High level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism.
