Detailed Job Description This position will provide systems administration, lab management, desktop support, server support and specialized lab equipment integration with computers for data collection and experimentation for the Golisano Institute for Sustainability. Major responsibilities include:
Manages day to day operations of all departmental computing & IT functions
Systems administration and maintenance of both Windows and Mac systems through Active Directory, group policy, and SCCM
Desktop support for GIS and CIMS faculty/staff and RIT owned and assigned electronic devices
Systems administration and support for all department specific servers
Responsible for all departmental computer lab operations and technical support
Communicate with faculty, staff and students on lab technology and computers systems through various media including Web-based
Responsible for oversight of proper safety, cleanliness and functionality of assigned labs through tasking student lab assistants, including OSHA health and safety requirements. Additionally, ensuring laser safety training for users as needed
Advises and recommends to faculty and staff types of hardware and software required to support department or computer lab requirements and technology integration
Responsible for department security administration and ensures adherence to university security standards
Performs analytical, technical, and administrative work in the planning, design, and installation of new and existing personal computer systems
Manages, installs, and maintains new & existing hardware and software and their respective inventory
Writes programs to fulfill requirements, or selects appropriate off-the-shelf software and modifies to suit; Develops and maintains appropriate documentation.
Continuously improves technical knowledge of operating system and network environments across multiple platforms
Trains faculty, staff and students as necessary on new software and technologies
Installation, maintenance and management of the various electronics displays in GIS and CIMS.
Installation, maintenance, and management of various audio/visual technology in meeting rooms, conference facilities, and offices
Manages and maintains file shares and the corresponding server infrastructure.
Provides support to the printer infrastructure to maintain proper printer configuration including printer hardware, software, and server infrastructure
Computer Systems Administration:
Actively manage workstations for faculty, staff, and labs.
Responsible for servers running Windows, macOS, or Linux.
Provide tier 3 support for faculty and staff.
Manage fileshares and printers for faculty, staff, and students.
Creation and scripting of software distribution packages to application deployments and security patches of all PCs, Macs and servers.
Facilitate the development and implementation of improvements to information technology systems and processes.
Evaluate, recommend and support technology
Knowledgeable in software license management.
Remote administration, installation, and configuration services including scripting of software distribution packages.
Utilization of Microsoft Endpoint Manager Configuration Manager (MEMCM - formerly known as MEMCM) for Windows OS deployments, application deployments, software maintenance, security patching and compliance, configuration management, and reporting.
Utilization of Munki for macOS deployments, application deployments, software maintenance, security patching and compliance, configuration management, and reporting.
Administrative support of cloud hosted applications(Adobe, Zoom, etc).
Specialized application support.
Network and Security Administration of endpoints
Familiarity with IPv4/IPv6 networks and subnetting.
Familiarity with properly configuring firewalls and IPsec for least privilege access.
Familiarity with antivirus software, such as SentinelOne Endpoint Security
Management of Active Directory, OUs and GPOs

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors or equivalent experience, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science
3 to 5 years experience
Extensive knowledge of Windows OS, Windows Server 2012/2016/2019, and OSX. Knowledge of Linux and Unix operating systems a plus
Strong working knowledge within a Microsoft Windows Active Directory environment and using group policy objects
Experienced in administering Windows endpoints in SCCM; Working knowledge of administering Mac endpoints.
Competent understanding of computer security practices and specific tools that protect computing environments, including a solid understanding of server, network and desktop security.
Troubleshooting hardware issues and replacing parts such as hard drives, memory, motherboards and processors.
Competent knowledge and understanding of networking technologies and associated protocols

Customer support experience.
