Position: YAI’s General Counsel will serve as the principal legal officer for this mission-driven nonprofit, with overall responsibility for the leadership and direction of YAI’s legal functions and needs. Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Counsel will provide legal advice and counsel to Senior Leadership, the Board of Trustees, and YAI’s affiliates, and serve as the organization’s primary representative and liaison with the community at large for all things legal. The General Counsel must have the ability to proactively lead, manage, and monitor the legal needs and functions of a large and diversified multi-state nonprofit health, education, and social services provider. This position will work full-time from the organization’s headquarters in New York, NY.
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible experience as a practicing attorney with subject matter expertise in healthcare and compliance, and familiarity in the areas of employment, insurance, corporate governance, contracts, and general business transactions. Nonprofit experience preferred.
The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach to the practice of law, and a strong understanding of the healthcare landscape, including managed care. YAI operates in a highly regulated environment, where the General Counsel will be expected to offer guidance and recommendations on risk management and mitigation. As a member of the senior leadership team, the General Counsel must present as a confident, independent, solution-oriented strategist and leader who is collaborative and a team player.
