The Global Initiative is anchored by a team based in Boston with approximately 65 staff sitting in key regions around the world, which are all contributing to the School's global strategy and research. We play a critical role in the School's efforts to build a deep understanding of and expertise in global business practice and innovation.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Global Initiative, the Assistant Director is a key member of this Boston based core team, overseeing the management of a variety of programs and activities. Responsibilities range from Center staff training and development, and management of Global Advisory Boards, to events, communications/brand management, and community building. Develops and carefully monitors programs, both in and outside his/her program portfolio. Works cross-functionally with departments across the School and University and in close partnership with the Global Centers. Offers guidance to local HBS staff at the School's overseas Centers.
Global Advisory Board:- Manage membership of the Global Advisory Boards and maintain annual refresh pipeline of prospective members, as well as new member on-boarding.
- Work closely with Executive Directors and Staff Assistant on preparing and sending materials.
- Manage biennial Boston Symposium and Global Advisory Board meetings, developing agenda and content in collaboration with Associate Director, as well as coordinating logistics with External Relations.
- Provide guidance to Centers on biennial local in-region meetings.
- Develop annual Board communications calendar and draft communications for senior leadership.
Global Initiative Staff Development:- Manage annual Professional Development program – identify HBS Online course opportunities, liaise with campus partners and staff to coordinate registration, and manage budget ensuring equity across organization.
- Collect metrics on program to evaluate success and continue developing new opportunities for Global Initiative staff.
- Work with campus partners and Global Initiative team to develop further training opportunities such as staff case discussions, trainings with Baker Library, etc.
Brand Management/Communications:- Website maintenance and development, in coordination with team. Quarterly updates to News and Highlights on each regional page, in collaboration with Global Initiative colleagues.
- Manage quarterly Global Initiative staff newsletter, with contributions from the team.
- Develop presentations, documents and materials.
- Support drafting of departmental communications, as well as provide occasional editing support to the Centers.
- Support team in managing data requests and collecting global data around HBS annually.
Other Projects:- Support Global Initiative team on larger-scale departmental events, e.g. Executive Director Meeting Weeks, Staff Summits, etc.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned.
This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus 3 days per week. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.While we continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions, we appreciate your understanding and flexibility with our interview process. - BA/BS degree required
- 7+ years related experience in globally-oriented higher education, business or non-profit environment is required
- Master's degree preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with remote, intercultural teams.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills required.
- Ability to develop, create, guide and manage multiple projects with conflicting priorities and minimum supervision.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and ability to make decisions in a deadline-driven environment a must.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively with colleagues across campus and globally. Experience with public speaking.
- Proficient computer skills: Word, Excel, Internet proficiency.
- Experience with databases preferred.
