Serve as senior finance officer
• Assure timely and accurate financial statements are provided to management, the Board of
Directors, and outside stakeholders.
• Oversee financing strategies and activities, as well as banking relationships.
• Establish a solid investment portfolio.
• Assure the integrity of all administrative functions including accounting, treasury,
credit/collections, audit, risk management, planning and analysis, and budgeting.
• Represent the organization to outside stakeholders including financial institutions,
investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
• Provide oversight of financial audits and work closely with the Finance Committee of the
Board.
Manage finance and accounting department
• Oversee the Finance Department: interview and hire experienced professionals for fiscal
positions, train and provide development opportunities to enhance staff skills, and
coordinate department functions to meet the goals and mission of the organization.
• Establish finance database and platform assessment and streamline processes with
software and information technology infrastructure.
• Oversee and monitor cash, investments, and treasury management. Oversee the process
of cash projections and ensure availability of funds as needed.
Lead strategic planning and budgeting/forecasting processes
• Develop business plans and forecasts for administrative services departments as well as
new program services.
• Develop and utilize predictive models and financial analyses to provide insight into the
organization’s operations and business plans.
• Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, identify
areas of cost reduction, top-line growth and drive profit improvement, not just through
traditional methods of cost control. Projection of growth should include profitability
analysis, forecasting and benchmarking.
Manage all compliance activities
• Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding
nonprofit operations and finance; including specific regulations for government grants.
• Develop, refine, and update financial policies and procedures in accordance with Uniform
Guidance and other relevant regulations, standards, and best practices.
• Oversee preparation of tax returns and various other government regulatory reports to
stay in compliance with all required regulations
Serve as a thought partner to CEO and executive leadership team
• Work closely with them to achieve the Center’s vision as well as maintain partnership and
effective lines of communication.
• Participate in the analysis of current management practices and operations to ensure the
optimal use of available resources.
• Provide effective and inspiring leadership by being actively involved in all programs and
services and developing a broad and deep knowledge of community needs and alignment
to the Center’s programs.
• Champion a spirit of collaboration and open communication across all organizational
departments and Finance to advance systems integration and foster trust among team
members.
• Minimum MBA or advanced finance degree from accredited college/university; CPA
preferred.
• Five years’ experience as CFO or similar senior financial management role overseeing the
finance function of an institution, preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget over
$20 million, with public revenue sources.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in finance and accounting within the non-profit and social
services sector.
• Significant experience in and knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated
fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting; audit; finance; budgeting; and
business operations.
• Strong knowledge of Federal grant requirements and regulations and OMB Uniform
Guidance.
• Long-range planning experience.
• Must be action-oriented, entrepreneurial, agile, and nimble.
• Must possess excellence in organizational management with an ability to coach senior-level
employees to manage and develop high-functioning performance teams.
• Ability to prioritize and communicate to team members key objectives and tactics
necessary to achieve organizational goals.
