Senior Director of EntrepreneurshipAbout the OpportunityJOB SUMMARY:Reporting to the Head of Entrepreneurship & Venture Creation, the Sr Director - Roux Entrepreneurship to grow our successful foundation of expanding the startup Ecosystem in Maine, oversees the entire Entrepreneurship team, and lead our efforts in Entrepreneurship Education, Venture Creation, and Community & Support. The Sr Director will be directly responsible for managing and implementing strategies, programming, and a collection of resources that enable the creation and support of new businesses and the education of entrepreneurs. They will lead engagement with entrepreneurs across the global Northeastern and local Maine network with the goal of making Maine and the Roux Institute the most exciting place to start and grow a business. This position will also work directly with leadership of partnership, academic, and research domains to ensure programs integrate with the Roux Institute mission and efforts of other key components.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Thorough understanding of starting and scaling a high growth technology company, developing a team, and managing diverse stakeholders. Ability to work with a high level of independence within a progressive institutional environment; challenge the status quo and develop new techniques to support venture creation; embrace new ideas; innovate and anticipate future needs; share knowledge and teach others to do the same. Strong communicator and collaborative partner, able to work up, down and across the organization, and represent the Institute in a variety of diverse forums. Networked approach to developing leadership style is key; must be comfortable in an environment of deep collaboration, engagement and creativity from all levels of the organization. Ability to work efficiently, creatively and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and exercise sound judgment. Knowledge and experience required for this role are normally acquired through a bachelor's degree plus at least five years experience in startups or Entrepreneurship support ecosystems (ideally both), managing and developing a team with a proven track record of success and expertise in building and/or mentoring businesses from concept to first customer and beyond as well as working with external and internal organizations, partners, donors and agencies to produce results. This may include investors, corporations, government programs, and entrepreneurs.
Travel Requirement: - You will be required to travel, mostly regionally, to meet potential partners and entrepreneurs
- You will be required to travel to Boston occasionally for meetings at Northeastern's Boston and Burlington campuses
- There is limited travel further afield to meet companies who wish to move offices to Maine or to visit Northeastern regional campuses- Networked approach to developing leadership style is key; must be comfortable in an environment of deep collaboration, engagement and creativity from all levels of the organization
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:1) Strategy Development & Execution:- Work with Head of Entrepreneurship to Develop new strategies, and grow existing programming that will further the Roux Institute mission.
- Co-Develop and refine strategic vision plans for all Roux Entrepreneurship-related needs
- Ensure all aspects of the Entrepreneurship portfolio are operating at a high caliber:
- Providing support for ventures from inception to acceleration
- A collection of resources that enable the creation and support of new businesses and the education of entrepreneurs
- Where and who to partner with
- What programs should be built to meet entrepreneurs' needs
- A framework and/or system to measure the impact of the Center
- A yearly action plan and budget
- Fundraising
- Player/Coach when needed to step in to support strategic projects and inititatives.

Management & Operations- Lead, engage and motivate employees; actively support a positive culture on the team.
- Provide an effective process for performance management and development that provides measurable goals, clear expectations and solid direction to each team member.
- Provide frequent feedback, recognition and coaching to ensure high performance, professional growth and development. Plan for and support employees in career and professional development opportunities aligned with organization's needs.
- Address unsatisfactory employee performance including developing, delivering and monitoring performance improvement plans.
- Facilitate the resolution of employee conflicts.
- Lead and guide employee/team to develop new skills, knowledge and abilities that will enhance their work and development.
- Plan, organize resources, assign and delegate activities and measure results to achieve organization's expectations.
- Ensure team is achieving set goals.
3)
Stakeholder Management- Engage with entrepreneurs throughout global NU and Maine ecosystems
- Manage strategic partnerships, both internal and external to the University
- Participate in quarterly strategic planning meetings and lend insight into the planning for venture creation
- Work with Partnerships & Advancement to develop short and long-term funding strategies
- Act as a liaison between the Roux Institute and the larger Northeastern Network
