There are currently two Corporate Counsel openings with JD Finish Line. One will largely focus on marketing activities, and one will focus on leasing activities:

Marketing: Evaluates and advises on customer-facing compliance work, including promotions, marketing campaigns, loyalty programs, influencer agreements, website terms, privacy, and trademark and intellectual property rights.

Leasing: Negotiates and drafts commercial leasing related documents in a manner designed to protect profitability and prevent/minimize disputes and potential liability. Applies knowledge of the company’s internal operations to ensure compliance with the standards negotiated into leasing documents. Liaises with landlord representatives to resolve conflicts. Influences internal departments and company behavior generally to promote fiscal performance of the entire portfolio of stores.
Job Description
The primary function of the Corporate Counsel position is to spot, evaluate, and manage legal risk and provide legal guidance to the company’s business people as they engage in various aspects of commerce and operations. The position also includes providing legal review of the company’s contracts and other transactional documents, and other projects as assigned. Verifies proper economic points, creatively drafts new language and/or documents if necessary, and consistently strives to improve existing language and points in documents.

Thinks proactively and aggressively in all negotiations.

Evaluates and advises on legal risks associated with all business proposals submitted for review to reduce exposure to liability for any potential legal claims or sanctions in a timely manner.

Provides advice and counsel across all business units regarding legal risk to corporate interests and on corporate policies, procedures and initiatives.

Participates in and provides oversight of investigations into matters arising out of third party and internal claims.

Conducts research and analysis of specific legal questions and prepares memoranda and opinions setting forth research results, expert legal interpretations, recommendations and conclusions, including proposed implementation plans.

Develops collaborative relationships with leaders in all business units.

Develops legal expertise as necessary to meet needs of corporate legal department.

Ensures the timely and efficient management and completion of a multitude of varied projects.

Required Education and/or Experience
Licensed JD with minimum of 1 - 3 years years as an active attorney in a corporate or legal firm environment.
Required Computer and/or Technical Skills
Should have basic to intermediate knowledge and abilities with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Employees may be asked to perform additional duties outside of normal job scope on a temporary basis per company policy. Pay range: $120,000 - $140,000; 20% bonus target. This role will be eligible for medical, dental, vision, 401k, sick leave, parental leave, and company paid time off plan.
