The Investigations Unit (IU) within the Office of Ethics & Compliance (OEC) is responsible for coordinating, tracking, managing and conducting investigations of complaints of improper governmental activities made under the University'sWhistleblower Policy and/or Whistleblower Protection Policy. The IU Team, led by the IU Manager, is responsible for conducting thorough, professional and timely investigations. This responsibility includes identifying compliance issues, scoping the investigation and performing fact-finding, recordkeeping and report-writing efforts in accordance with University policy and best practice investigative standards.
Reporting to the Chief Campus Compliance Officer (CCCO), the IU Manager is a subject matter expert on the university's policies, processes and standards as well as an experienced professional investigator. The IU Manager independently oversees, advises and manages the activities of the IU. The IU Manager is responsible for effective management of the IU, long-range planning for improvement of operational efficiencies and establishing strategic direction for the Investigations program. The IU Manager manages daily operations of the IU, including case management, staff supervision and deployment of technology and web content to support and advance compliance services. The IU Manager also provides guidance in ensuring compliance, drives process enhancements and efficiencies and proposes and implements training of all relevant stakeholders. The IU Manager directly supervises an Investigations Specialist and an Investigator.
The IU Manager works collaboratively with the Locally Designated Official (LDO), the Retaliation Complaint Officer (RCO), Office of Legal Affairs and other UCSF units, as appropriate, to manage multiple complex investigations, deliverables and deadlines.
