Detailed Job DescriptionPlease note: This is a full-time, in person position, Monday - Friday, at RIT's Rochester, NY campus.Responsible for tracking and monitoring financial transactions for sponsored projects and operating departments for the Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS), ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines and University policies/procedures, as well as the preparation of financial reports, including project forecasting, to enhance management decision making and fulfill sponsor requirements. The major responsibilities will be accomplished through extensive interaction with the GIS Associate Director (AD) of Finance and Administration who will provide primary day-to-day direction for financial activities.
Major responsibilities:
Lead day-to-day administration of sponsored projects, including main point of contact with SPA and SRS.
- Lead monthly/quarterly project review meetings with Principal Investigators; provide financial statements and expenditure projections
- Responsible for completing required reports for all federal, state and privately sponsored grants
- Ensure all sponsor invoicing is completed timely
- Review/process monthly journal entries
- Provide expense detail for sponsor reporting
Assist with day-to-day administration of operating and academic accountsAssist with annual budget process for Academic programsResponsible for monthly budget to actual comparison reports for operating accountsResponsible for accurate accounting for daily financial transactionsLead GIS in ensuring financial processes meet acceptable levels of internal control; compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and sponsor guidelines; and alignment with University's policies and procedures and provide recommendation for process improvementsAssist in preparing proposal budgets for carve out of existing awardsAssist in preparing accurate financial forecasts for the fiscal year end balances for all of the operating, capital, endowment, gift, special project, and discretionary accountsLead process for reporting of Unrelated Business Income (UBIT)Lead Re-charge Center annual rate calculation processPrepare budgets to accompany proposal documents for grant applications to federal, state and private sponsors

Our six industry.-facing applied research centers focus on sustainable manufacturing, energy, transportation, and buildings. They work to develop advanced technologies, sustainable industrial processes and practices, and data-informed policy recommendations. Each year, about 100+ companies,. governments, and other organizations engage GIS's research centers on a variety of projects to solve technical problems, innovate products or processes, research manufacturing technologies, reduce their environmental footprint, or commercialize a new technology. Research center projects are led by full-time professional staff with significant industry experience and access to nearly 90,000 square feet of infrastructure including state- of-the-art labs and testbeds.
Required Minimum QualificationsEducation/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field required.
- Seven (7) years progressive experience in accounting, financial analysis, and/or project accounting is required, with preference given to candidates with experience working in a manufacturing environment.
Specialized Skills:
- Hands on post award grant administration experience along with knowledge of OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and federal acquisitions regulations (FAR) strongly desired.
- Enterprise wide financial applications experience and PC-based computer skills required including advanced knowledge of MS Office products.
Preferred:
CPA or MBA preferred
