The Role: Associate General Counsel, Labor & Employment Law
Grade: 14 (relevant for internal applicants only)

This position, in conjunction with 1-2 other employment law colleagues, supports a business of over $12 billion in revenue and over 35,000 employees located around the world. You will report to a Chief Corporate Counsel who reports to the General Counsel of S&P Global.
What's In It For You:
S&P Global is seeking a business-minded and self-motivated attorney with at least 7 years of employment law experience at a leading law firm and/or as an in-house employment lawyer to join its corporate legal team.
You will have a track record that demonstrates the ability to work independently with limited direction, a problem-solving mindset, sound practical judgment, strong knowledge of the law, and the ability to succeed in a fast-changing and collaborative environment.
In this position, you will interface with members of the company's management and People teams based out of S&P Global's 55 Water Street headquarters and at offices around the world to manage and execute on a broad range of employment and labor matters.
Responsibilities:

Provide practical and strategic legal counsel and risk management advice to management and People team colleagues on a wide variety of employment matters in a manner that is consistent with the Company's values and goals.

Advice ranges from recruiting, compensation, performance management, separations, internal investigations, agreements, leaves of absence, discrimination, harassment, diversity and inclusion, workplace privacy, wage and hour compliance, restrictive covenants, reasonable accommodations, employee classification, immigration, mergers and acquisitions, labor matters, and general employment risk management.

Participate in and provide leadership on efforts to prepare, implement and refine best-in-class and People First employment-related practices, policies, guidelines, tools, programs and forms that align with the company's employee engagement strategy, values and business goals

Representing and defending the company as necessary in employment disputes, including lawyer's letters and administrative charges.

Manage outside counsel as necessary for employment litigation.

Manage and oversee outside counsel in the provision of advice in jurisdictions outside of the United States, in collaboration with regional People and Legal team members.

Preparing and conducting regular employee and management trainings on relevant matters, and managing company training programs in conjunction with the People team.

Monitoring and assessing the impact of legal and regulatory developments and enforcement trends at a state and federal level. Global monitoring of developments in conjunction with outside counsel and regional People team members.

Efficiently managing outside counsel with an eye toward minimizing outside counsel expense and meeting budget.

Providing substantive support for the rest of the Legal team as needed, including on strategic transactions.
What We're Looking For:

J.D. with exceptional academic credentials and at least 7 years of relevant experience gained at a law firm and/or in-house (ideally at a publicly-traded company).

Must have JD or LLM from an accredited law school and maintain active bar membership in at least one US state.

Must have exceptional business judgment, legal issue identification and problem-solving skills.

Requires a practical, business-oriented approach to problem-solving; must be able to effectively counsel internal clients by providing them with clear, concise and commercial advice, and creative solutions where necessary, on established timelines to meet their business needs.

Must be able to operate autonomously in a collaborative environment, bringing a positive attitude to the workplace.

Must be trustworthy and discrete such that senior leaders can feel confident discussing highly sensitive and personal employment matters openly and honestly.

International employment law experience a plus.
Compensation/Benefits Information (US Applicants Only):
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $148,200 to $338,600. Base salary ranges may vary by geographic location. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is eligible to receive additional S&P Global benefits.
