Work Schedule: We are currently working remotely until March 2022 and will offer a hybrid/remote work schedule once we return to our new offices in Irvine.
The Sr. Corporate Counsel – Labor & Employment, in partnership with Legal and HR Department team members around the world, will provide subject matter expertise and solutions-oriented legal guidance on all aspects of labor and employment law across the U.S. and other jurisdictions, while mitigating risk and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures. The guidance will support various aspects of the company’s operations and functional departments.
Provide day-to-day legal advice, consultation and support to Human Resources and management.
Guide company through pandemic and post-pandemic workplace impacts and changes, including compliance with new government regulations; vaccine and testing policies; return to office planning; transitions to hybrid/remote working; employee mobility issues; modernization of policies and benefit programs; and other evolution of work topics.
Research and advise on traditional L&E topics such as employee handbooks, policies and procedures; recruiting and hiring; employee relations; performance management; discipline and terminations; internal investigations; disability and accommodations; sick leave and other leaves of absence; working time; compensation and benefits; discrimination, harassment and retaliation; confidentiality and restrictive covenants; and contingent worker issues.
Develop solutions and manage projects related to implementation of advice.
Keep informed of significant labor and employment trends and decisions, legislation and rulings, and make recommendations on related actions.
Draft and edit employment-related templates and documents.
Develop and provide employment-related training.
Manage and provide support on pre-litigation and litigation matters.
Develop case strategies and budgets, prepare or review pleadings and discovery responses, prepare witnesses, negotiate settlements.
Identify, engage, and manage outside counsel.
Draft and coordinate responses to requests for employment records, demand letters, and government audits and investigations.
Provide general corporate support, with a focus on relevant employment topics.
Advise on employment aspects of various business transactions, including reorganizations and integrations, mergers and acquisitions, and significant projects/initiatives.
Provide legal advice and counsel on compliance with employee privacy and security topics.
Support branch office registrations and de-registrations, corporate governance, and corporate expansion activities.
Partner with Office of Ethics and Compliance on compliance projects and initiatives.
Additional duties and responsibilities, as assigned, in support of the corporate and legal functions of the organization.
Strong labor and employment background and litigation management experience in multiple U.S. jurisdictions, including California.
Excellent research, writing, and negotiation skills.
Proficient in MS Office software including MS Word, Teams, Excel and PowerPoint.
Ability to interface successfully with all levels of internal and external clients to develop and maintain good working relationships.
Ability to work independently, set priorities, work within budget, meet deadlines and resolve complex problems, with a thorough understanding of the business and legal environments.
Demonstrated ability to implement legal strategies to meet business goals.

Exempt Salaried employees receive unlimited PTO. This means that there is no fixed number, range, or limit to the amount of Personal and Vacation Days that may be taken for exempt employees.
Non-exempt hourly employees accrue 14 vacation days per year + 7 sick days + 3 personal days. Accrual rate increases with tenure.

Law degree from accredited U.S. law school.
Admission to the California State Bar or eligibility for Registered In-House Counsel status in California (including active/good standing status with another state bar).
12+ years’ experience practicing labor and employment law.
Combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred.
Experience in a U.S. or Japanese-based multinational company preferred.
