Description of Work:
The UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA COLLEGE OF LAW invites applications for lateral candidates for a tenured faculty position with administrative responsibilities as the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
We are looking for a talented self-starter who is dedicated to developing inclusive organizational practices, to teaching through word and deed the importance of diversity and equity, and to advancing justice by encouraging current and future lawyers to see different perspectives and learn cultural competency. Our ideal hire desires to be a part of a high-functioning team of professionals focused on the important work of developing the next generation of inclusive leaders.
The Associate Dean for DE&I's responsibilities will include:
- Chairing the Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
- Serving as the College of Law representative on the UNL Council on Inclusive Excellence and Diversity (CIED).
- Leading faculty and staff discussions on diversity, equity, inclusion, unconscious bias and professionalism.
- Working with the senior administrative team to develop a nation-leading program on inclusive leadership.
- Working with interested faculty to incorporate discussions of the law's interaction with race, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic issues and disparities in a course's curriculum, where appropriate.
- Serving as a resource for the Admissions Office in the development of a plan for recruiting new law students from diverse backgrounds, particularly those with backgrounds that are underrepresented at the College of Law.
- Assisting in recruitment activities for prospective law students from diverse backgrounds
- Developing programming for College of Law students related to cultural competency, empathy, seeing the world through the eyes of others, and the importance of forming an inclusive community.
- Engaging interested members of the College's alumni and friends in the community to act as mentors for students from diverse backgrounds.
- Building the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program at the College of Law into a premier program that attracts students from diverse backgrounds and creates an inclusive community at the College of Law.
Job Duties
- 50% – Administrative responsibilities as the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (see above for specific responsibilities).
- 30% – Producing high quality legal scholarship
- 20% – Teaching two College of Law courses each academic year.
- 10% – Service and outreach to the College, the University, and the legal profession.
Teaching responsibilities will coincide with the individual's research and teaching interests and could include a wide variety of courses, including but not limited to Business Associations, Civil Procedure, Contracts, Criminal Law, Race and the Law, Family Law, Environmental Law, Immigration Law, Poverty Law, Conflicts of Law, Education Law, Professional Responsibility, Intellectual Property, Copyright, Unfair Competition, Corporate Governance, Non-Profit Organizations, Transactional Drafting, Business Planning and Advising, White Collar Crime, Wills and Trusts, and Accounting for Lawyers.
This position is open to lateral candidates and will begin at the rank of either Associate or Full Professor of Law, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
- J.D. Degree or equivalent.
- A superior academic record.
- A demonstrated interest in advancing institutional diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
- An established scholarly publication record.
Preferred Qualifications:
- JD degree.
- Teaching experience in a law school.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
