The Office of University Counsel (OUC) is responsible for managing the legal affairs of the university, including advising the schools and divisions on legal issues. OUC coordinates the delivery of all legal services for Tufts University. The Office provides advice and support to Tufts' administrative and academic personnel on a broad range of matters, including employee relations, real estate transactions, contracts, litigation and policy development. OUC also coordinates the selection and supervision of outside law firms.
The Corporate Paralegal will work closely with the Deputy General Counsel, Business Affairs in the Office of University Counsel (OUC) to support the OUC as well as the Office of Technology Transfer and Industry Collaboration (TTIC). The Paralegal will be responsible for supporting the legal staff in the preparation, review and processing of contracts and agreements and assisting the OUC and the TTIC in corporate transactional matters. The Paralegal will interact with others in the OUC, TTIC, the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, Purchasing, Operations and Advancement, as well as Tufts faculty and staff, and other entities. The Paralegal must have the ability to work independently through most projects, as well as contribute to shaping procedures and processes within the OUC.
3 years of relevant experience in either a law firm or in-house legal department.
BA Degree, paralegal certification, or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferred
Understanding of contracts.

Ability to support and assist the legal team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong planning and organizational skills; able to prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time restraints.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively.

Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel, and other document management systems. Ability to learn other computer applications, with training provided, necessary to the completion of tasks.
Creativity and initiative in developing and recommending to management and legal staff improved procedures, processes and techniques to meet varied and complex requirements of the position, task or project.
Ability to identify issues and problems and to recommend and implement solutions.
Possess a self-assertive attitude with the knowledge and initiative to take appropriate action in the absence of legal staff.
Willingness to take on projects outside of their essential functions, to be trained in new areas, and take on new responsibilities as they arise.
Experience working in-house or in the legal department of a university will be a plus.
