The Destination Manager is the in-market representative leader for Discover Front Royal, the new Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) that is being formed for The Town of Front Royal and County of Warren. The Destination Manager is responsible for executing strategies and tactics that will improve and grow the tourism industry for the destination. The Destination Manager oversees and is part of execution of tourism strategies created in conjunction with the Managing Director. This highly visible position interfaces with key community, government, hospitality, media and tourism leaders at the local, regional, and state level and demonstrates DFR’s positive impact on The Town of Front Royal and County of Warren. The Destination Manager will work with the DMO’s Managing Director, JLL, and will engage with the DFR Board of Directors.
As mentioned above, the DMO is being formed now and will be formally established in the coming months. The Town of Front Royal and the County of Warren have engaged JLL to form the new DMO and manage its operations in conjunction with the incoming Board of Directors. This position will be an employee of the new DMO and will work closely with JLL on executing marketing strategies and overall operations.
The primary responsibilities of the DFR Destination Manager are:
Organizing, coordinating, and implementing the day-to-day activities involved in the promotion of The Town of Front Royal and County of Warren and its tourism industry.
Implementing a tourism marketing plan.
Developing and implementing programs to promote The Town of Front Royal and County of Warren to outside visitors.
Representing DFR in the support and development of tourism-related festivals, events, attractions, facilities, and community organizations.
Representing DFR at key industry functions and events.
Attending meetings of the County Supervisors and the Town Council as needed.
Implementing and monitoring the annual DFR budget in conjunction with JLL oversight.
Inputting data into accounting and financial systems for invoicing and record keeping.
Working with JLL on reporting financials and other pertinent Board matters.
Working with JLL on public relations matters.
Overseeing contractors and vendors as needed.
Formulating budgets and practicing fiscal responsibility while carrying out DFR programs.
Maintaining accurate records and monitoring the progress of DFR’s programs and projects.
Developing a method for reporting progress on tourism strategy implementation.
Reporting on agreed upon metrics and KPIs with accountability for achieving goals.
Supervising staff and their assigned duties.
Assisting in the recruitment and motivation of volunteers.
Serving on appropriate community committees and boards.
Managing external communication in order to obtain maximum publicity of programs and accomplishments.
Interfacing with a broad group of stakeholders to continue the communication effort initiated with the tourism marketing and development process.
Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by JLL and the DFR Board of Directors.
Oversee and monitor visitor center hourly staff.
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Board reserves the right to substitute industry tenure for education.
2 years DMO experience with strong skills in product development, leisure marketing and public relations.
Management/Supervisory experience preferred.
Destination development and experiential development important.
Experience collaborating with Economic Development departments.
Experience collaborating with volunteer boards, elected officials, and the public.
Eye for marketing and capabilities on all web and social platforms.
An understanding of marketing, public relations, and communications.
Understanding of budgeting, financial analysis, with full P&L responsibility.
Experience with setting goals, measuring success and holding others accountable.
Experience delivering presentations to governing boards or committees and to elected officials.
