Who we want: Director of Major Gifts - Athletics ASU Foundation, one of five nonprofit entities that make up ASU Enterprise Partners, is seeking a Director of Major Gifts – Athletics. Under the direction of the Senior Associate Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director, Major Gifts, the director will perform work of considerable difficulty in implementing and coordinating comprehensive fundraising programs established for identifying, cultivating and soliciting annual, major and planned gifts, in conjunction with the objectives and strategies of ASUF and Sun Devil Athletics. The director will identify and establish rapport with prospective donors in solicitation of major gifts. What you’ll do: •Manage a portfolio of 150 major gift ($25,000+) prospective donors, with independent responsibility to develop and execute strategies leading to successful solicitation - prospect base will be primarily located in Arizona with strategic national regions assigned. •Support a comprehensive fundraising program established for identifying, cultivating and soliciting major and planned gifts/donations for the Sun Devil Club (SDC) in cooperation with the objectives and strategies of ASUF and Sun Devil Athletics. •Work closely with the Assistant Athletic Director, Major Gifts to develop and implement major gifts programs for designated units and programs within SDC. •Work closely with the Senior Associate Athletic Director and Assistant Athletic Director, Major Gifts in raising funds for athletics-specific campaigns including those in the Novus Innovation Corridor. •Work closely with administration to identify and prioritize funding opportunities within SDC •Establish a resource network in the community to identify and cultivate donor prospects, including working with volunteers, faculty/staff, and development staff to identify ability, and interest areas of major gift prospects •Foster an environment for successful fundraising in SDC by providing on-going information for athletic leadership and administration regarding fundraising initiatives and by preparing coaches and administrators to participate effectively in cultivation and solicitation activities •Implement and maintain programs to encourage increased activity and more productive relationships with SDC and its donors. •Develop, plan, and supervise the production of materials used to communicate with major gift level fundraising related constituencies •Work legislative relations, economic development relations and with corporate government relations representatives for matters related to the SDC when designated to do so •Support fundraising events for SDC, to include but not limited to, dedications and special receptions, as assigned •Work on the recruitment, organization and training of volunteers to raise funds on behalf of SDC •Coordinate special projects as assigned •Perform other administrative duties as assigned •Work with sports and coaches to implement sport specific fundraising programs with focus on major gift level fundraising, as assigned. •Responsible for 180+ high impact engagements each year and 30 proposals of $25,000+ a year •Other duties as assigned
What you’ll need: •Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment •Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospect information •Strong and collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, writing, and by phone •Able to secure personal appointments and qualify new prospects •Ability to work both independently and as part of a team •Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible •Team-oriented thinker and strategist able to effectively respond to complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing constituencies •Ability to represent the institution well •An advocate’s belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University •Ability to prepare complex and detailed proposals and related materials •Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties •Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects •Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in donor/prospect computer data base systems •Documented success in personally implementing sophisticated, multi-year cultivation strategies leading to successful gift closure •Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans •Demonstrable experience in stewardship plans leading to additional investments •Knowledge of principles and techniques of development/fundraising, preferably in higher education •Demonstrated achievement in securing philanthropic investments
Mental demands: Clarity of focus while juggling complex projects or deadlines.
Working conditions: Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses. Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear to perform essential functions.
Working equipment: This position will require a laptop computer, telephone, and mobile communication device ($60 monthly reimbursement) corporate credit card and business cards.
