Department Overview: Corporate Model Risk: Wells Fargo's Corporate Model Risk is responsible for independently overseeing the management of model risk exposures across the enterprise (including governing, monitoring, and reporting on aggregate model risk exposures, model validations, and model oversight across enterprise). This oversight extends to all phases of a model's life cycle, including identification, development, validation, implementation, finding resolution, usage, performance monitoring, documentation, and retirement.
About the Role:
CMoR operates in a fast-paced work environment with continuously changing policies and technologies. The successful candidate is expected to be self- motivated, require minimal supervision, and produce work that is consistent with CMoR's recognized high standards. Effective work will involve familiarity with source systems of record, analytical data and sampling plans, model replications, model performance assessments, and test model development as effective challenges to lines of business. It further requires strength in writing detailed standard analytical reports to ensure Wells Fargo's compliance with governance policies and regulations. Each validation report will include assessments of the specific business, model purpose and history, the model methodology, data integrity, model development, performance, implementation, and monitoring. These documents are read by a broad audience, including auditors and regulators.
The Advanced Computing and AI Engineering Team within the Advanced Technologies for Modeling (AToM) Group in CMoR has openings for qualified candidates. As an Advanced Analytic Consultant 4, the person will be working at the intersection of Data Science & AI/ML Research, Technology, and Quantitative Modeling. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Helping to develop the architecture and foundational components of our model risk platform, developing fully operational prototypes, and deploying them in partnership with our Technology partners.
Working on one or more projects dealing with distributed model training and optimization, intelligent data pipelines, model integration and continuous backtesting, automated model benchmarking, and specialized data visualization.
Contributing to the design and evolution of CMoR's computing infrastructure: distributed computing clusters with a traditional big data stack (Spark/HDFS/Hive etc.), and GPU clusters for specialized AI/ML model training and GPU-enabled simulation.
Providing guidance to the broader CMoR community on best engineering practices to run modeling and analysis at scale.
This is role will also require to review reports of junior team members and also train team members on various aspects mentioned above. This role will also require to provide thought leadership
Market Skills and Certifications
7-10 years of experience with Master's Degree or equivalent in computer science, electrical engineering, data science, or another discipline with a strong quantitative core and extensive exposure to software engineering or scientific computing
Hands-on experience and deep knowledge in at least one of these areas: data engineering and/or compute-intensive systems, with a track record of success in delivering systems into production.
Change management skills and proven ability to conceptualize and communicate designs and plans;
Knowledge of recent frameworks for building Machine Learning pipelines such as MLFlow, Kubeflow, Airflow, and TFX;
In depth knowledge of Spark internals and performance optimization. Knowledge of typical big data ecosystem tooling (e.g. Cassandra, Impala, Kafka etc) a big plus.
Knowledge of common machine learning frameworks: e.g. scikit-learn, Tensorflow, PyTorch;
Good understanding of service-oriented architectures, microservices, modern RPC and message buses;
Hands-on experience with traditional high performance and scientific computing: schedulers (e.g. SLURM), MPI, OpenMP; Ray a plus
Excellent programming skills in a systems language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Scala, Go, Rust), and one specialized language (e.g. Python, R, Julia);
Deep understanding of data modeling and relational databases. Advanced SQL, including analytical functions and recent additions to the SQL standard;
Knowledge of common data visualization toolkits (e.g. D3, Vega,) and frontend analytical applications. Knowledge of React is a big plus;
Skill in managing relationships with key model stakeholders
Eagerness to contribute collaboratively on projects and discussions
Perpetual interest in learning something new, but being comfortable with not knowing the all the answers
