The Staff Counsel will report to both Deputy General Counsels, who report to the President, and is an entry level attorney who is responsible for assisting both Deputy General Counsels in providing legal advice and services to the university on a broad range of matters. The Office of General Counsel is a fast-paced, high-volume workplace that manages the legal affairs of the University, providing legal advice and assistance to the University's Board of Trustees, President, Provost, Vice Presidents, Vice Provosts, Deans, Chairs, Directors, Faculty, and numerous other University functions and constituents.
J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school. Excellent legal research and writing skills. Admission to the Ohio Bar in good standing. At least one year of experience practicing in a broad range of legal areas, such as those listed above or commensurate with experience in higher education compliance. Qualification for appointment as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio to include a background check, finger-printing, and interview with the Office of the Ohio Attorney General. Essential Functions and percent of time::
(50%) At the direction and under the supervision of the Deputy General Counsels, the Staff Counsel will provide quality legal services to the University focusing primarily on contract review and public records responses.
(40%) Advise and provide legal guidance to a broad range of administrative and academic offices which will include responsibilities such as, conducting research, providing advice, drafting legal opinions and review and revising university and internal division policies.
(10%) Other duties as assigned by the Deputy General Counsels.
