This is an exceptional opportunity to join a growing biopharmaceutical company that has a solid foundation but is also at a size where a single contributor can have a dramatic impact and touch on multiple facets of the business. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the AGC will provide legal services to the Company, with an emphasis on securities and corporate governance matters. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to advise Company clients on a broad variety of other legal matters, which may include contracting related to manufacturing, research and development, commercial and medical affairs, as well as litigation or employment. As the AGC is interested and able, he/she will have the additional opportunity to maintain a focus on securities and corporate governance, while rotating throughout other areas of legal as he/she moves forward, gaining exposure to new areas of law and contributing to the business in even more varied ways.
The AGC will interact with executive management and all levels of the organization and major customers, often in high-stakes situations which require strategic thinking and negotiation. This is a role where collaboration is prized and the successful candidate will maintain an appropriate focus on legal risk while simultaneously acting as a true ally to the business and facilitating the continued growth of the organization through key ventures. Rather than being a niche player, the AGC will be a crucial part of building out the infrastructure of a growing company. AGC will be expected to take the knowledge he/she has amassed at a national law firm and in-house entity and apply it appropriately to a growth-stage company where the immediate objectives may be markedly different and the outcomes of individual ventures are therefore significantly more important. Suitable candidates will relish the idea of acquiring an in-depth knowledge of the organization and its strategic initiatives
Location: The position will be based in Emeryville, California at corporate headquarters.
Relos: Local candidates are strongly preferred.
Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience, including experience at a nationally recognized law firm and experience as in-house counsel responsible for securities matters and corporate governance. Contracting experience within biopharmaceutical or medical device industry is a plus.
