Position Summary: The Office of the General Counsel supports Yeshiva University and its affiliates by providing legal counsel and representation to all departments and functions within the University, including its branches of operation, instruction, research, and administration.
The Office of the General Counsel provides advice on the legal implications of policy and other decisions under applicable law, regulations, and statutes, in addition to representing the University in litigations, administrative and regulatory hearings, and handles business transactions involving the University. It also works closely with outside counsel retained to provide legal services and representation for the University.
The Fellow would work closely with the Vice President for Legal Affairs, Secretary and General Counsel, who, in turn, will provide guidance and mentoring opportunities
The Fellow will have the opportunity to attend high level business related and legal strategy meetings and interact with University attorneys, outside counsel, high level administrators, staff, faculty and the student community.
Office Management and Finances The Fellow will assist the General Counsel with overseeing the business operations and finances of the Office of the General Counsel including:
Assisting with the budget, legal bills and expenses and vendor relationships
Research current business process trends and techniques being used in other law departments to reduce spending and/or conduct business more efficiently
Coordinate the Office of the General Counsels Continuing Legal Education program with outside counsel
Identify trends in technology and automation that might improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Office of the General Counsel
Update and maintain the Office of the General Counsel website
Board and Committee Relationship Management Assist the Corporate Secretary (General Counsel) with managing Board matters, conflict of interest reviews, Governance Committee matters, Audit Committee matters
Research & Legal Work Work on substantive legal projects
Pro Bono The Fellow will be responsible for coordinating the General Counsels Pro Bono Program, including:
Planning and coordinating the activities of the General Counsels Council including meetings and projects
Work with corporate law departments and/or private law firms performing pro bono services
Yeshiva University in Israel Assist in interactions with YUI and Israeli counsel
Experience & Educational Background:
Bachelors Degree in related field and some related work experience
Skills & Competencies:
The goal will be to strengthen the Fellows critical thinking, analytical writing and oral presentation skills, and give the Fellow the ability to multitask
The Fellow would also experience a fast paced and challenging legal and business environment
