The Vice President, Legal Affairs and Deputy General Counsel ("DGC ") is responsible for assisting the Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs and General Counsel ("GC"), in effectively and efficiently providing, managing and coordinating the legal activities and affairs for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Cedars -Sinai Health System, Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation, and other identified affiliates (collectively, "Cedars-Sinai") with the ultimate objective of optimal legal and strategic advantage for Cedars-Sinai. The DGC guides management and leadership in the interpretation of relevant law, advises on strategic, operational and policy matters, guides enterprise risk management, manages lawsuits, arbitrations and similar proceedings, and maintains an understanding of trends and forces shaping the health care industry in the context of legal requirements.
DGC assists the GC with the day-to-day management and operations within the Department of Legal Affairs ("DLA"), including supervising and directing/ coordinating the work assignments of (a) Associate General Counsel, Senior Corporate Counsel, Corporate Counsel, other more junior attorneys, paralegals and support staff, in the DLA, and (b) outside counsel.
DGC is a legal executive with significant expertise and is responsible for matters of substantial importance. The DGC operates with a significant degree of independence, and routinely retains and interacts with outside legal counsel, experts, and consultants as needed. The DGC strives to carry out the position responsibilities in a timely manner in response to client needs and expectations.
The DGC serves as the DLA representative for Cedars-Sinai initiatives, committees, and task forces as requested by the GC.
DGC maintains subject matter expertise in two or more substantive areas of law that routinely or materially affect Cedars-Sinai operations or strategy, and mentors junior lawyers in the areas.
DGC performs all duties in a manner that promotes Cedars-Sinai mission, values, and philosophy and serves as a role model for the values and mission of the organization.
