Position Summary The Ira M. Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership ("Millstein Center") at Columbia Law School focuses on corporate governance, the role of business in society, and global financial markets and their diverse and changing actors. The Millstein Center conducts timely research on crucial real-world issues, including the relationship between investors and corporations, the impact of new investors on corporate governance and environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors, and puts on a wide variety of related programming, including programs aimed at board chairs, general counsels and other high-level executives. The Reuben Mark Initiative for Organizational Character and Leadership ("Mark Initiative"), which is run through the senior leadership of the Millstein Center, leverages the intellectual capital of Columbia Business School and Columbia Law School to develop and design curricula and programming that impart lifelong leadership lessons and teach the skills and strategies necessary to create an optimal organizational culture. Reporting to the executive director, the program manager will work as part of the team to help to build a fast-growing academic center. The program manager will be responsible for the administration and management of the Millstein Center's events, communications and operations, including its finances and budget, as well as supporting the Center's faculty director(s). This role will be a key team member in a dynamic, collaborative work environment, and will work directly with the faculty director(s), executive director, and other staff to ensure that crucial daily operations run smoothly and efficiently.
Responsibilities - Manage all aspects and logistics of Millstein Center and Mark Initiative events, including prominent executive/board roundtables, forums and issue-focused symposia, board meetings, committee meetings, and guest lectures for students, and developing content and source materials for those Center-sponsored events;
- Design, write, maintain, and edit content for the websites and social-media engagement platforms (especially LinkedIn and Twitter) to raise awareness of the Millstein Center and Mark Initiative's work and elevate their reputation and relevance.;
- Lead the development of the Millstein Center's publications, including hiring freelance writers and designers, and overseeing production and distribution. Create, edit, and send mass email marketing communications on behalf of the Millstein Center and the Mark Initiative, monitoring and growing the Center's mailing list while tracking metrics to ensure maximum impact and suggesting ways to improve performance;
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Millstein Center and Mark Initiative, including drafting and updating annual budgets, monitoring spending along budget lines and submitting reimbursements, under the supervision of the Executive Director, Assistant Director and the Faculty Co-Directors;
- Works with the Executive Director on Center fundraising, including identifying and researching new potential funding sources, coordinating corporate and individual relationships with Center partners and assist in researching future funding opportunities, including corporate sponsorships and grants;
- Provide support for one or more faculty directors in their teaching and research capacities, including providing academic course support, supervising teaching and research assistants, conducting research and obtaining copyright clearances, booking travel, processing financial transactions, and reconciling budgets in coordination with the Law School's Faculty Support department; and
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. At least two years of related work experience is preferred. Knowledge of, or strong interest in, corporate governance, capital markets or organizational culture preferred. Computer proficiency required. Relevant web content coordination experience preferred. Must be well organized, detail oriented, and work well under pressure to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a high volume operation with minimal supervision. Must be willing to learn and implement new technologies to maximize task performance. Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse groups including faculty, students, and external partners. Must have tact, diplomacy and the ability to exercise judgment in matters that are sensitive and confidential.
