The Deputy General Counsel will be an integral part of the legal team, reporting to the General Counsel, and advising LA 2028’s senior management on all matters affecting the legal rights and obligations of the corporation and its affiliates. The successful candidate will have experience with corporate governance and various commercial transactions, preferably including financing, real estate, joint ventures, and intellectual property matters.
Serve as legal advisor to the Chief Legal Counsel, General Counsel, senior management and division heads on identified corporate and real estate transactions and legal matters.
Steady stream of analytical work, meetings, decision-making and drafting, including preparing, reviewing and negotiating all varieties of legal documents including but not limited to real estate documents, finance documents, agreements with municipalities, and legal memorandums and correspondence.
Advise on internal control, governance and compliance matters (Olympic Charter/Code of Ethics compliance; oversee anti-corruption compliance program, etc.).
Supervise, monitor and assist in the career development of all subordinate attorneys and paralegals, and ensures that appropriate evaluation procedures are conducted.
Works with entire LA 2028 legal function to continually improve delivery of legal services
Perform significant projects / duties as assigned by the General Counsel

Provide analysis and guidance on strategic projects.
Work closely with individual departments to anticipate, identify and manage compliance matters, legal exposure and risk management.

Work with outside counsel on matters requiring representation.

Undergraduate degree, Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA accredited law school required.
License to practice law, be in good standing with the California State Bar and have the ability to practice law in California.
8+ years’ experience in broad-based transactional and commercial real estate matters required.
Concrete understanding of contract and corporate law, and business transactional principles.
Strong interpersonal skills including ability to communicate effectively with a variety of contacts, including outside attorneys, senior management and business associates.
Excellent judgment, knowing when to escalate issues.
Excellent analytical skills; capable of identifying and prioritizing issues and providing alternative solutions.
Excellent project and time management skills and ability to manage and prioritize changing workloads to meet deadlines.
Positive, team-oriented, and collaborative attitude.
High level of personal integrity and professional ethics; ability to maintain confidentiality.

Prior in-house experience is a plus.
Experience in sports or internationally is a plus (but not required!).

About LA28 - Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2028
The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games (“Games”) will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help shape the future of Los Angeles, and the Olympic and Paralympic Movement in the United States and across the Globe.
LA 2028 is a non-profit public benefit corporation. The specific purpose of the organization is to improve and enhance the quality of life of the residents of the City of Los Angeles, California and the surrounding metropolitan area through the hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. Its core activities include: (1) planning, organization, financing, promotion, sponsorship, hosting and staging the Games, (2) raising funds to be used to plan, organize, finance, promote, sponsor, host or stage the Games, and (3) creating and implementing sustainability and legacy programs for the Games.
Currently, the organization is comprised of approximately 50 FTEs (including the joint venture with the United States Olympic Committee which focuses on commercial operations). The majority of employees are based at the headquarters in Los ...Angeles, with select employees in New York, Washington DC, and Colorado Springs. The organization expects to run efficient operations with a modestly lean team for the next 4-5 years; however, much closer to the Games, the workforce will grow to thousands, including full-time employees, contractors, and volunteers.
As outlined in the Candidature Phase bidding documents (available on our website), LA 2028 expects to generate over $5B in revenue, primarily from disbursements from the IOC, ticketing, domestic sponsorships, and licensing. These revenues will cover all expenses, with a robust contingency, for planning and executing the Games, including temporary construction, workforce, and all operations for both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. LA 2028 will also invest up to $160M in youth sports in the City of Los Angeles to make sport more accessible and affordable to more young Angelenos leading up to the Games in 2028 – beginning the legacy of LA 2028 now, not after the Games conclude.
LA is Games-ready today – LA 2028 will therefore spend the next decade focused not on permanent construction, but on enhancing the experience for athletes, spectators, and the community as it prepares the greatest Olympic and Paralympic Games in history. Through the venue use agreement and hospitality negotiations, the Managing Counsel will be central to delivering on those organizational goals.
