As General Counsel of Penn State Health, this position has ultimate responsibility for legal affairs of a health system encompassing a 550 bed academic medical center, a 200 bed community hospital, ancillary provider organizations, approximately 1,300 physicians and direct care providers and a total of of 13,000 employees, with current revenues of approximately $2 billion. As Associate General Counsel of The Pennsylvania State University, this position is responsible for legal affairs of the Penn State College of Medicine, serving as liaison with the University as the parent entity of Penn State Health, and assisting as required with legal services on behalf of the University.
This position reports to the General Counsel for The Pennsylvania State University; Chief Executive Officer of Penn State Health and Dean of the College of Medicine; Board of Directors of Penn State Health.
Penn State Health is a multi-hospital health system serving patients and communities across central Pennsylvania.
The system includes Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, PA, Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Children's Hospital, Penn State Cancer Institute, and Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital (jointly owned with Select Medical), based in Hershey, PA, as well as more than 1,300 physicians and direct care providers at 78 medical office locations. The system also has jointly owned health care providers, including Hershey Outpatient Surgery Center, Hershey Endoscopy Center, Horizon Home Healthcare and the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute.
Penn State Health shares an integrated strategic plan and operations with Penn State College of Medicine, the University's medical school.

A minimum of 15 years of healthcare law experience gained either in a corporate counsel setting in a non-profit academic hospital or health system or in a private law firm in positions of progressively increasing responsibility and scope over time. Knowledge and experience in Stark, Anti-kickback Statute, antitrust, physician relationships, tax-exempt status, managed care and risk contracting, mergers and acquisitions, Medicare and non-profit corporate law are required. Litigation experience, including managing and participation in depositions, trials and appeals is desirable but not required. Experience managing direct reports and working effectively with various constituencies is required.
