The Program Director, Field Experiments and Behavioral Research Methodologies is part of an integrated team providing services to faculty conducting field experiments and behavioral research. Reporting to the Senior Director, Research Administration and Behavioral Research Services, and operating as part of a cross-functional team dedicated to the support of faculty research, the Program Director contributes to the work in two ways. First by supporting the development of the Field Experiments Program and the efforts of HBS faculty conducting randomized control trials (RCTs or field experiments) at corporate, government and non-profit organizations. Second, as a Behavioral Research Methodologist providing guidance and subject matter expertise on a variety of behavioral research methodologies.
Field Experiments Program
Partnership and Research Development
Identifies opportunities for research partnerships with organizations and creates a plan to develop relationships that facilitate these partnerships. Expands and nurtures existing relationships, identifying successes that can be leveraged in other collaborations.
Works with colleagues across HBS to highlight faculty research activities, increasing awareness and disseminating information about opportunities to participate in field experiments.
Educates organizations about RCTs, communicating both the value proposition and the requirements of scientific research methodologies.
Works with HBS faculty and organizations to establish research collaboration agreements, data use agreements, and other compliance documents in coordination with partners across HBS and Harvard University (HU).
Research Operations Support
Works with HBS faculty, staff, and partner organizations to determine on-site staffing and support needs for individual field experiments to meet logistical and operational needs.
Works with on-site staff and resources to monitor progress of projects and troubleshoot problems that may affect research quality. Ensures the successful implementation of field experiments.
Research Resources and Community Support
Is the resource to faculty and staff to identify best practices in field experiments. Trains research support personnel when needed.
Develops and organizes community events such as workshops for HBS researchers and an annual hosted conference to bring together academics and companies engaged or interested in conducting field experiments.
Research Policy and External Funding Support
Works with other units at HBS and HU to ensure compliance with regulations governing research with human subjects, as well as institutional, state and federal regulatory policies and procedures.
Under the guidance of the HBS Dean's Office, facilitates the development of policies for managing potential conflicts of interest that may exist between faculty and companies.
Behavioral Research Methodology Support
As part of the Behavioral Research Services team, serves as a consultant and subject matter expert to faculty and researchers engaged in behavioral research, providing guidance and best practices: on experiment and survey design, development, sampling and implementation, enabling faculty to collect data through a variety of research methodologies; for ethnographic research and participant observation, face-to-face and phone interviews, and randomized controlled trials in field settings. Keeps up-to-date and advises researchers on technologies and tools associated with behavioral research data collection. Communicates and advises researchers on new and innovative practices and technologies.
In collaboration with the Associate Director, Behavioral Research Services, serves as a resource to BRS team members, faculty, and researchers, providing implementation guidance and support of studies conducted in the CLER lab and the field, managing problem resolution when warranted.

PhD degree in economics, experimental social psychology, public policy, or a closely related field with 5-7 years of experience in a business partnerships and in a research support role is required.
A track record of success in project planning and management with demonstrated ability to move projects forward while anticipating future needs, challenges, and opportunities required. Extensive and relevant experience with RCTs, research methods and data analysis; including a demonstrated understanding of evidence-based behavioral/social science analytic methods, including the understanding of structured analytic techniques, probability theory, decision analysis, statistical and data analysis, signal detection theory, game theory, operations research, qualitative analysis, etc.. Some travel required.
