Rider University invites applications for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal to support the General Counsel in the daily activities of the Legal Affairs Department, with an emphasis on contract review and risk management. Under supervision of the General Counsel, the successful candidate will assist in providing legal support to the University, with an emphasis on, but not limited to contracts, preparation of legal documents, document review, insurance, communication with business managers within the institution, and external communications with contract partners and insurance advisers. Individual will interact with attorneys (internal and external), administrators, support staff, clients and vendors; maintain confidentiality of client and University matters.
The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to:
Reviewing business associate agreements for compliance with best practices and procedures
Communicating with internal and external counsel, internal and external business managers as needed
Proactively identifying potential legal risks and liabilities and solutions
Assisting with completing necessary legal work within the bounds of legal and ethical rules
Drafting contracts and other forms or documents as requested
Performing legal and other research
Assisting with ethics and compliance related items, litigation management, insurance related issues, including annual renewals and coverage questions, Enterprise Risk Management
Providing administrative support as requested.
The successful candidate will be a Certified Paralegal (CP) or Certified Legal Assistant (CLA) credential (ABA approved) or JD and possess at least 2 years of experience. Additionally, the successful candidate must possess: Experience with IT contracts (e.g. Saas, self-hosted) and data privacy and security; familiarity with risk management concepts and principles; demonstrated attention to detail, follow up and organizational skills; the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously; excellent writing and verbal communication skills; the ability to work well with others; contribute positively to a collegial mission-driven environment ; the ability to maintain punctual, regular and predictable attendance; the ability to prioritize and multi-task duties and projects in fast-paced environment; and proficiency with Google Apps and all Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).
